In the past, a dependable Giving Tuesday package led with a matching gift offer highlighted in the copy and performed respectably. But the creative package was functional rather than compelling — the match offer was present in the copy, but it wasn't doing the work it could. The opportunity was clear: if we could make the 2X match feel urgent, visual, and impossible to ignore, we had room to grow both response and revenue.
The Solution – Storytelling in Action
For the 2025 Giving Tuesday appeal, Meyer Partners redesigned the package from the ground up with a sharper creative strategy. The goal was to make the 2X matching gift the undeniable hero of every element — not a detail buried in a paragraph, but the emotional and visual anchor of the entire mailing. The new package featured a bolder, more dynamic design with the match offer prominently featured throughout the letter copy and reinforced on the reply slip, so donors encountered it at every touchpoint in the reading experience. The message was simple: every dollar you give today becomes two. That clarity, repeated and visually emphasized, gave donors a stronger reason to act — and act now.
The Results
The redesigned 2025 package, mailed to a comparable list of donors, delivered measurable improvements across every key metric. The response rate climbed. But the most striking gain came in average gift, which jumped by more than 31%. The combined effect was significant: net revenue — after production and postage costs — grew 44%. By making the match feel real, urgent, and central to the ask, donors didn't just respond more — they gave more generously when they did.
